Yesterday (Mon-Tue)
Met with Pastor Edgar Cáceres and his wife from Chiquimulilla yesterday. They are mentoring three groups of men and women in their church. He told me that the President of the Pastors association of his City (the Pastor of the El Shaddai Church there), announced that will begin mentoring his leaders using INSTE soon. PTL!
2 Kings 10-12
10 – Outward prosperity with inner failure: “He executed the Lord’s will on His enemies, but didn’t obey the Lord personally” (v30-31). God prospered Jehu’s family for doing a certain deed that God said would happen, but Jehu’s soul never prospered, because He wasn’t interested in knowing God and walking with Him. Like king Saul, a hundred and fifty years previous, he was satisfied with a measure of outward obedience that was to his own benefit, but his heart wasn’t after God himself. Thank you Lord for giving us Your awesome story so we can learn Your ways. More of You, Jesus!
11–12 The godly mentor’s vision: The priest Jehoiada had witnessed the evil influence of the murderous, ambitions grandmother, Queen Athaliah over Judah for seven years. During that time he cared for and mentored the infant Joash, the only heir left to the throne of David. Through his mentoring, God was able to bring revival to Israel.
The godly mentor has a sense of the wonderful potential in the life of his mentoree. He prays for him and disinterestedly seeks to move his friend toward God’s purposes for his life.
Prayer Power…
Father, thank you for our spiritual fathers and mothers. Thank you for restoring spiritual fathering to your Church. Give us the heart of discipleres. In Jesus’ name.
Psalm 113 – “He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap. He grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children” (NKJV). The Creator of the universe gives priority to the most needy.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel from 1996-1999, once said, upon meeting three Israeli soldiers who had Downs Syndrome and who had become quite functional through Ruben Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment therapy, “A nation should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens.” Feuerstein’s therapy depends 80% on the loving attitude of the mediator (mentor) who administers the instruments.
Pro. 23 – “My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.” The heart of a mentor.
